A different kind of MOOC
The Desautels Faculty of Management launched a world鈥檚 first on September 16, coining a new word in the process. According to the people who put the course together, 鈥Social Learning for Social Impact鈥 is the very first GROOC (Group MOOC), a new massive open online course that鈥檚 designed to foster social collaboration, interaction and learning.
The course is taught by its co-creators,聽John Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies聽Henry Mintzberg, BEng鈥61, Desautels faculty lecturer聽Leslie Breitner, Teaching and Learning Services senior project manager聽Anita Nowak, BCom鈥97, PhD鈥11, and Desautels PhD candidate聽Carlos Rueda, a former political adviser to the Peruvian government. The course, which is the product of a two-year design and development process, has attracted about 7,000 learners from 162 different countries.
