Connectivity is more than a smartphone and online access

A recent article in Graphic Arts makes the point that the word 鈥渃onnectivity鈥 brings to mind images of smartphones and online transactions, but that according to Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg, net-based communications do a poor job of building real interpersonal relationships.

Modern communications technologies and social media definitely have value as networking vehicles, but there are nuances in people鈥檚 voices, expressions, and body language that emoticons and text just can鈥檛 reveal.

When it comes to getting a feel for a person鈥檚 mood or intentions, you can鈥檛 beat face-to-face communication, a handshake, or even a phone call.
