Companies are addressing racism through open dialogue sessions 鈥 but is it working?

As the Black Lives Matter movement continues to shine a light on systemic racism, many companies are committing to 鈥渓istening and learning鈥 to the lived experiences of underrepresented groups through open dialogue sessions to help make concrete plans that will advance equity, diversity and inclusion. Despite the well-intentions, these sessions have been subject to criticism.

鈥淚t鈥檚 about what leaders are going to do with these listening and learning sessions versus what鈥檚 wrong with these sessions,鈥 says Professor Patricia Faison Hewlin.

鈥淭his is a step. Not an antidote. It鈥檚 a critical component to a larger, strategic plan.鈥
