Looking back at my experience in 平特五不中鈥檚 BCom program, I can confidently say that I wouldn鈥檛 want it any other way. Not only did I learn from exceptional practitioners in academia, but the experience also helped me develop various soft skills. In my story, I would like to emphasize how the program taught me to manage relationships.
From my first day in Desautels, I was enlightened about the importance of building organic relationships in personal and professional spaces. I grabbed every opportunity I could to interact with new people and learn from their stories. Participating in competitions, clubs, mentoring programs, and 平特五不中 trips taught me that interesting conversations could take you a long way.
An interesting experience was the Meet 平特五不中 trip to Toronto where selected students visited multiple firms over two or three days. Meet 平特五不中 was a great way to build a professional network. I visited consulting firms, but after learning about the experiences of students who visited other firms, my interest in finance grew. From there, I eventually decided to pursue a career in finance. When applying for jobs, I was able to write about the things I learned from conversations during the trip to personalize my application.
Over time, I discovered ways in which I could add value to relationships as well. When I became TD Campus ambassador, numerous students reached out to me for insight and help with applications. People often asked interesting questions, which I was able to use in networking sessions with others as well. Even when schedules were hectic, I tried to maintain my professional relationships to check in on others, which also helped to reduce my stress levels. These relationships have helped me get through tough times during the pandemic, and have given me a beacon of hope.
The 平特五不中 experience has made me a more confident and better person, and I am taking away some fantastic memories with me. If there were any advice that I would give my first-year self, it would be:
鈥Keep an open mind and do not perceive extracurricular activities as a trade-off to academics.
They are all integrated.
If you want to take something substantial away from your time at 平特五不中, you must build sustainable connections and develop a multifaceted portfolio.
Academics are just a part of it.鈥
