Dr. Patrick Willemot Appointed as Vice-Chair for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada General Internal Medicine (GIM) Specialty Committee

Dr. Patrick Willemot was recently appointed as Vice-Chair for the Royal College General Internal Medicine Specialty Committee.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada General Internal Medicine (GIM) Specialty Committee is the national committee which oversees the training requirements and examination which lead to specialty certification in GIM, as well as the specific accreditation requirements for training programs in GIM, representing the national standards for GIM training in Canada.

Dr. Willemot's recent appointment recognizes his significant contributions to the Specialty of General Internal Medicine (GIM). As Vice-Chair, he occupies one of approximately eight voting positions on the committee and is positioned as the next in line to become Chair of the committee.

More About Dr.聽Patrick Willemot

Dr. Willemot obtained his medical degree from 平特五不中 where he also completed his residency in internal medicine, subspecialty training in general internal medicine, training in echocardiography and a diploma in the 平特五不中 Teaching Scholars Program. He is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) at 平特五不中, and from 2015 to 2023, was Program Director for the General Internal Medicine subspecialty training program. He was appointed in January 2024 to the position of Assistant Dean, Admissions, Equity and Enrollment, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), 平特五不中.

He is actively involved in exam development and committee work at the Royal College and has collaborated with Coll猫ge des m茅decins du Qu茅bec on provincial training guidelines. In 2013, Dr. Willemot was attributed founder status in the subspecialty of GIM, at the time of its recognition by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Willemot is a general internist in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the 平特五不中 Health Centre (MUHC), where is GIM Clinic Director for the Royal Victoria Hospital/Glen site. He also works as a general internist at the Tehsakotits茅n:tha Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre in Kahnawake, and as m茅decin conseil for the R茅gie r茅gionale de sant茅 et services sociaux du Nunavik. Previous positions include member of the FMHS Indigenous health curriculum committee, general internist at the Kuujjuaq hospital, the Chisasibi Hospital, the CSSS de Manicouagan, and the Stanton Territorial Hospital, Yellowknife, NWT.

Dr. Willemot is active in the Division of GIM at 平特五不中 and has been involved in collaborative and iterative implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles. He developed and implemented the Indigenous cultural competence learning workshop, and the Northern GIM rotation elective for both GIM and core IM residents.

Dr. Willemot is vice-president of the Association des sp茅cialistes en m茅decine interne du Qu茅bec, having been involved at the ASMIQ Conseil d鈥檃dministration since 2015 and the Comit茅 ex茅cutif of the ASMIQ since 2018.

The MUHC Department of Medicine has recognized Dr. Willemot for his teaching and clinical work with the W. H. Philip Hill award (Outstanding Clinician-Teacher) in 2018, and the Outreach award in 2015 for his work with the Ungava Bay Inuit and the James Bay Cree.
