Dr. C茅dric Yansouni Leads CIHR-Funded Initiative for Nunavik Syphilis Rapid Testing

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has recently announced funding for an initiative focused on expanding the use of Syphilis Rapid Tests in Nunavik. The project, known as Stopping Syphilis Transmission in Arctic Communities Through Rapid Diagnostic Testing in Non-Traditional Testing Sites (STAR-NT study), was ranked first overall in the competition.

Led by Dr. C茅dric Yansouni,听MD, FRCPC, DTM&H,听Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, along with his team including Drs. Jean-Sebastien Touchette, Mathieu Maheu-Giroux, Yassen Tcholakov, Eli Angiyou, Veronique Morin, Maggie Saviadjuk, and Yiqing Xia, the initiative aims to address infectious and congenital syphilis in Canada, particularly in Nunavik.

Dr. C茅dric Yansouni (principal investigator), Dr. Mathieu Maheu-Giroux (co-principal investigator), Drs. Jean-Sebastien Touchette, Yassen Tcholakov, Veronique Morin, and Yiqing Xia (co-investigators), with the invaluable support of mayors Eli Angiyou and Maggie Saviadjuk.

249 000$/1 year (ranked first in the competition)

Additionally, the CIHR has awarded a second operating grant on a related topic to Dr. C茅dric Yansouni and his team. This project, with co-principal investigator听Dr. Mathieu Maheu-Giroux and听with co-investigators Dr. Yassen Tcholakov, and Docteur Jean-S茅bastien Touchette, aims to enhance knowledge mobilization for syphilis research in Nunavik, with a grant of $150,000 for one year.
