Ready, Set, Block: The Future of the Internet? – Lunch and Learn

Tuesday, July 23, 2019 12:00to13:45
Room 645-647, Bronfman, 1001 Sherbrooke W, Montreal, QC, H3A 1G5, CA

Obtaining injunctions, including site-blocking and de-indexing orders, against intermediaries, such as internet service providers (ISPs) and search engines, are increasingly becoming a tool of choice for rights holders around the world to help stem online piracy. However, ISPs and search engines often claim that site-blocking and de-indexing orders wrongly target passive intermediaries, offend the principle of free expression on the internet, violate net neutrality, and offend privacy laws.

Moderated by Prothonotary Alexandra Steele, join Joseph C. Gratz of Durie Tangri LLP, Richard Pfohl of Music Canada, and Hafeez Rupani of Motion Picture Association - Canada for a lively discussion and debate over the merits of site-blocking and de-indexing orders as appropriate tools to combat online piracy.
