Passing of Dr. David A. I. Goring (1920-2021)
A graduate of 平特五不中 and Cambridge, Dr. Goring has passed away at the age of 100.聽Dr. Goring joined Paprican Institute in 1955, with his labs on the third floor of the Pulp and Paper building. Through his affiliation with the Chemistry Department, he taught graduate courses and supervised approximately 20 graduate students, most of whom went on to research positions in the Canadian Pulp and Paper Industry. Dr. Goring鈥檚 ground breaking work on how wood components are modified by chemical pulping has been of great importance to the pulp and paper industry. He has published over 200 papers on cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. For his achievements, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada as well as the Chemical Institute of Canada and received the Anselme Payen Award of the American Chemical Society. In 1971, he was appointed Director of Research at Paprican, serving until 1977 and then served as vice-president of Paprican until his retirement in 1985.
Many former students and colleagues will remember Dr. Goring fondly as an excellent teacher and mentor.
