CCVC seminar: Frank Glorius - On discovery in Catalysis

Tuesday, February 2, 2016 13:00to14:30
Maass Chemistry Building Rm 10, 801 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B8, CA

Catalysis is a key technology of our modern societies, since it allows for increased levels of selectivity and efficacy of chemical transformations. While significant progress can be made by rational design or engineered step-by-step improvements, many pressing challenges in the field require the discovery of new and formerly unexpected results. Arguably, the question 鈥淗ow to discover?鈥 is at the heart of the scientific process.

In this talk, I would like to discuss discoveries from my group based on鈥

- mechanistic investigation,

- the observation and analysis of serendipitous findings by the prepared mind and

- the development and use of rather smart screening technologies.[1,2]
