Inspired by natural structures like seashells, Barthelat and his team developed a technique to strengthen glass. They were able to make glass 200 times more resistant to breakage by engraving micro-cracks in wavy configurations on its surface. The pattern of micro-cracks guided larger cracks and absorbed impact energy.
Thu, 08 Jan 2015 21:35:24 +0000 webfull 107410 at /channels Special Seminar: Dr Martin Schiemann /channels/event/special-seminar-dr-martin-schiemann-256010
Dr Martin Schiemann from the Department of Energy Plant Technology at Ruhr-University Bochum will present a talk entitled "Lithium as energy storage material."聽

A鈥媌stract
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 22:59:19 +0000 webfull 113186 at /channels Leading the charge toward sustainability /channels/news/one-person-two-new-roles-charge-toward-sustainable-engineering-and-design-241132
Professor Jeffrey Bergthorson in the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been named the first Panda Faculty Scholar in Sustainable Engineering and Design at the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (TISED).
