Brittany Jock and Alex McComber, Assistant Professors at the Department of Family Medicine, will provide information on several projects that have evolved from the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Program, a community-based participatory research project since 1994 which has a long association with the Department. Work in diabetes prevention for children has led to new areas of exploration including community mobilization with inter-community sharing around a healthy lifestyles effort; and developments in food security with Indigenous Peoples and communities.

Indigenous Awareness Weeks (IAW) 2024 is pleased to welcome Dr. Laara Fitznor (University of Manitoba) to present "Reflections on Journeying through Academia as an Indigenous Scholar" on Thursday, September 19th, at 4pm. This marks the launch of IAW is open to all members of the 平特五不中 and surrounding community.聽

Please join us to celebrate and learn in Indigenous culture and experiences in academia with Dr. Fitznor. A light reception will follow. 聽

Joyce's Principle is a document created by the Atikamekw Nation and Manawan First Nation following the death of Mrs. Joyce Echaquan on Sept. 28, 2020, at the Joliette Hospital Center in Lanaudi猫re, Qu茅bec, during which she was subjected to verbally violent and racist statements by health workers.
