Pain, it's all in the brain: 13th Annual 平特五不中 Pain Day, Jan. 22
Keynote speaker will be Dr. Eduardo Bruera, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
Pain, from migraine headaches to disabling back spasms to the excrutiating and endless neuropathy brought on by chemotherapy, is one the world鈥檚 most serious health problems. Pain causes untold personal suffering and costs the economy billions due to lost work days. On Thurs., Jan. 22 close to 200 pain experts will gather at 平特五不中 to address these issues and to present new discoveries in the field.
"Understanding pain, particularly chronic pain, is complex," says Dr Catherine Bushnell, director of the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain, which hosts 平特五不中 Pain Day. "Only through the sharing of information and interdisciplinary collaborations will we better understand and develop therapies for this health problem."
This year鈥檚 plenary lecture 鈥淭owards integrated assessment and management of pain and other symptoms 鈥 It鈥檚 all in the brain,鈥 will be presented by be Dr. Eduardo Bruera, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Other events include poster session, prizes for best trainee presentations and a trainee workshop.
鈥淭he critical mass of pain researchers and clinicians at 平特五不中 University and the MUHC ensures that this complex area receives the attention it deserves, both by daily study, and through special events like this,鈥 said Dr. Terrence Coderre, Chair of the Pain Day organizing committee.
