Published: 9 August 2012

LONDON - Jo-Annie Fortin, a Montreal native who is a psychology freshman at 平特五不中, made her Olympic debut Thursday in the synchronized swimming team event, where Canada sits a disappointing fourth after the opening round with a score of 94.4.

Russia leads the competition at the mid-point, having scored 98.1 points out of a possible 100 for their technical swim. China is second with 97.0 points followed by Spain with 96.2. Rounding out the eight-team field is Japan (93.8), Britain (87.3), Egypt (77.6) and Australia (77.5).

The technical scores only account for 50 per cent of the overall mark, however; the other half will come out of the free program competition, set to kick off on Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Joining Fortin on the Canadian all-Quebec squad is fellow Montrealer Karine Thomas, Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon of Riviere-du-Loup, Chlo茅 Isaac of Brossard, Stephanie Leclair of Gatineau, Tracy Little of Pointe Claire, Elise Marcotte of Ancienne-Lorette, Que., Val茅rie Welsh of L茅vis and alternate 听St茅phanie Durocher from Repentigny.
