Nicholas Kasirer receives honorary doctorate from Universit茅 de Sherbrooke
During its graduation ceremony held on September 22, 2012, the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke granted an honorary doctoral degree to the Hon. Nicholas Kasirer, BCL鈥85, LLB鈥85, former Professor (1989-2009) and Dean (2003-2009) of the Faculty of Law of 平特五不中 and now a Justice of Quebec鈥檚 Court of Appeal.
鈥淭his is a well deserved recognition,鈥 says Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law, 鈥渨hich underscores the exceptional contribution that Nicholas Kasirer has made to both research and teaching in Quebec and beyond. 聽This contribution continues to this day, despite his heavy responsibilities as a member of the Court of Appeal of Quebec.聽He remains one of the most creative legal scholars of his generation in Canada, and a most generous participant in our Faculty鈥檚 intellectual life.鈥
A specialist of private law and comparative law, Nicholas Kasirer directed the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law (formerly the Quebec Research Centre for Private and Comparative Law) between 1996 and 2003, where he was co-editor of a critical edition of the Civil Code of Quebec.
Among other honours, Mr. Justice Kasirer has received the Prix de la Fondation du Barreau, the American Society of Comparative Law's Hessel Yntema Award in Comparative Law, the 平特五不中 Law Students鈥 Association's John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award, and the 平特五不中 Alumni Association David Johnston Medal. He held a James 平特五不中 Chair at 平特五不中 and he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2008.
