Montreal Researchers Identify Rare Gene Variation Involved in Bone Disease
Published: 15 September 2015
A team of international researchers, led by Brent Richards of 平特五不中 and the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General Hospital, published their findings Monday of a rare gene variation that offers a protective quality for bone density. 鈥淲hat鈥檚 interesting about this variation is that it has an effect on bone density and fracture twofold larger than anything we鈥檝e found previously 鈥 twofold larger than anything anyone in the world has found previously, I should say,鈥 Richards told the Montreal Gazette. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the first time, to our knowledge, someone has used whole genome sequencing to identify an entirely novel gene that increases susceptibility to any disease.鈥
