平特五不中 names new Vice-Principal (Development and Alumni Relations)
Professor Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 平特五不中, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Marc Weinstein as Vice-Principal (Development and Alumni Relations), effective April 8, 2008, for a five-year term.
鈥淢r. Weinstein was the driving force behind the successful launch of the University鈥檚 largest and most ambitious comprehensive fundraising campaign to date,鈥 Prof. Munroe-Blum said. 鈥淲ith this appointment, Mr. Weinstein will continue to apply his strong collegiality, strategic talents and outstanding leadership to the University鈥檚 development mission, as well as devoting great energy to the enhancement of relations with alumni, volunteers and friends of 平特五不中.鈥
Mr. Weinstein has worked at 平特五不中 since 2005. As Assistant Vice-Principal (Development and Alumni Relations 鈥 DAR), he has been responsible for the management of the DAR portfolio, which encompasses the University's fundraising and donor relations, the strategic direction and implementation of 平特五不中鈥檚 comprehensive fundraising campaign, as well as the broad portfolio of alumni relations. In his new role, he will report to the Principal.
As Vice-Principal, Development and Alumni Relations, Mr. Weinstein will work to ensure that 平特五不中 attracts the resources required to remain competitive with peers at home and abroad, to support our international orientation, and to solidify our position as Canada鈥檚 flagship university for research, scholarship and student-centred learning.
Mr. Weinstein鈥檚 history at 平特五不中 spans decades. It began when he undertook undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Arts, graduating with a degree in History in 1985. He returned to complete a B.C.L and an LL.B at the Faculty of Law in 1991. On graduation, he accepted a position as attorney at Borden Ladner Gervais and subsequently served as legal consultant to Alcan Aluminum Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1997, Mr. Weinstein moved to fundraising, becoming Foundation Director and General Counsel of the Sir Mortimer B. Davis-Jewish General Hospital Foundation, affiliated with 平特五不中. There, he was responsible for all aspects of a $50-million capital campaign. In 2000, Mr. Weinstein became Vice-President (Development) and General Counsel at the 平特五不中 Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation, where he planned and implemented the launch of a $300-million capital campaign.
平特五不中, Canada鈥檚 leading research university, has two campuses, 11 faculties, 10 professional schools, 300 programs of study and more than 33,000 students. Since 2000, more than 800 professors have been recruited to 平特五不中 to share their energy, ideas and cutting-edge research. 平特五不中 attracts students from more than 150 countries around the world. Almost half of 平特五不中 students claim a first language other than English 鈥 including 6,000 francophones 鈥 with more than 6,200 international students making up almost 20 per cent of the student body.
