平特五不中 student wins Governor General's Award in Translation

Rachel Martinez has won the 2005 Governor General's Award for her French translation of Kevin Bazzana's biography of Glenn Gould, Wondrous Strange: The Life and Art of Glenn Gould. The French-language version was published by Les 脡ditions du Bor茅al under the title Glenn Gould : une vie.

The members of the jury singled out Ms Martinez's translation for her mastery of musical terminology as well as the precision and clarity of her text. Her elegant style truly captured the emotional quality and complexities of Gould's personality.

Ms Martinez completed her undergraduate studies at 平特五不中 in linguistics and subsequently earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Italian. She is currently completing her Graduate Diploma in Translation in Spanish in 平特五不中's Department of Translation Studies. A member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interpr猫tes agr茅茅s du Qu茅bec (OTTIAQ), Ms Martinez has been a practicing translator since 1999 in addition to being a public relations consultant and communications director at the National Theatre School of Canada. The French-language edition of Glenn Gould's biography is her first published literary translation.
