The Gazette: Court to decide the rights of unmarried couples

(Op-ed by Joanna Baron, a third-year law student at 平特五不中): On Wednesday, the Quebec Court of Appeal will hear the infamous "Eric and Lola" case. The justices will hear arguments, on one side, as to why Quebec's family-law rules denying spousal support entitlements to unmarried conjugal couples are unconstitutional. On the other side, arguments will focus on autonomy and the right to have one's personal and deliberate choice not to marry and be on the hook for spousal support respected by the state.
