Dr. Catherine Guastavino of the School of Information Studies awarded NSERC grant for 3D audio research
Congratulations to 平特五不中 School of Information Studies faculty member Dr. Catherine Guastavino on her NSERC (Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada) Engage Grant.
The project "Spatialized and Interactive Artificial Binaural Reverberation鈥 is a 3D audio rendering project in collaboration with industry partner Audiokinetic, a Montreal-based company producing audio engines for interactive media and video games.聽
In virtual environments, a high-quality interactive audio presentation of the acoustic environment plays a significant role in the perception of the virtual space. Emerging video game and interactive media peripherals will soon provide consumers with a highly immersive virtual reality experience through the use of stereoscopic displays and head-tracking.
This project will develop a next-generation algorithm which produces interactive, head-tracked reverberation for an acoustic approximation of virtualized listening environments. This advancement will increase the sensation of users鈥 immersion in 3D virtual environments through realistic audio production. 聽聽
NSERC Engage Grants are designed to give companies that operate from a Canadian base access to the unique knowledge and expertise available at Canadian universities. These grants foster the development of new research partnerships between an academic researcher and an industrial partner by addressing a company-specific problem through the generation of new knowledge or the application of existing knowledge in an innovative manner.
