Une soir茅e pour L'UTA/One night for the EDU

Friday, October 14, 2016 19:00to21:00
PHI Centre & 平特五不中, CA, CA

You are cordially invited to a movie night in support of the Eating Disorders program at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute.聽

Special screening of 鈥淢iss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children鈥
October 14th at 7:00 pm
@ Cinema Guzzo March茅 Central
Ticket price: $20, includes an entry, a popcorn and a drink

Each $20 ticket includes entry to a special screening of 鈥淢iss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children鈥 at Cinema Guzzo March茅 Central on October 14th at 7:00 pm, a popcorn and a drink. Opening remarks will be made by Dr. Mimi Isra毛l, M.D., FRCPC, Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the Douglas Institute.聽

Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go directly to the Eating Disorders Program at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. A tax receipt will be issued for any donation above the $20 ticket purchase.

In the coming months, the Douglas Mental Health University Institute鈥檚 Eating Disorders Cottage will be undergoing much needed renovations. They will be expanding the outpatient space and kitchen areas to accommodate the increasing demands. Although the government provided a grant for the expansion, it is not enough. The Eating Disorders Program needs another $150,000 to increase the number of inpatient beds from six to nine and to increase the number of patients they can treat.聽

The therapeutic environment that the Douglas provides is welcoming and understanding. However, the physical space it occupies is limited; with one room holding the kitchen, a dining room and therapy 鈥榣iving room鈥. The patients who are in Day Hospital spend 40 hours a week in that limited space. These renovations will allow for the expansion of areas to include an activity room and a larger kitchen to promote safety and fluidity in the cooking space. Having these separate spaces will help enormously in the functionality of the clinic.

I know that people aren鈥檛 comfortable talking about mental health and eating disorders, but it is such a worthwhile cause. I hope not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness and start a conversation. One of the most dangerous symptoms is isolation and silence, and I truly believe that it is time to speak up!

Sincerely,

Pauline Belliveau
Former patient of the Eating Disorder Clinic
