Protecting social and economic rights in Israel: From the Supreme Court to the grassroots and back
A talk by Professor Neta Ziv, Tel Aviv University. With a focus on clinical legal education, this lecture will provide an opportunity to consider the development of human rights practice and law in Israel. Dr. Neta Ziv will draw on her extensive experience in the field of law and human rights.
Biography of Professor Neta Ziv
Neta Ziv is the director of The Cegla Clinical Law Programs at the law school. She is the academic supervisor of the Human Rights Clinic and teaches courses on Legal Ethics and the Legal Profession, Law and Social Change and Rights of People with Disabilities.
Dr. Ziv received her LL.B. from the Hebrew University Law Faculty in 1983, her LL.M. from The American University in Washington, DC in 1986, and her J.S.D. from Stanford Law School in 2001. Dr. Ziv practiced as a public interest lawyer for the Association for Civil Rights in Israel between 1986 and 1996 and served as a leading attorney in some of Israel鈥檚 major human rights cases litigated before the Israeli Supreme Court.
Dr. Ziv was among the founding members of the Israel Women鈥檚 Network Legal Center, the chair of Bizchut - The Israel Human Rights Center for People with Disabilities, and currently serves as a board member of "Itach - Women Lawyers for Social Justice". Dr. Ziv is a board member and Vice President of The New Israel Fund.
