Excavation work on select areas of lower west field begins June 19

In anticipation of the transformation of the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex, some excavation work will be conducted on select areas of the lower west field adjacent to the McLennan and Redpath Library buildings. The McLennan-Redpath Library buildings are part of a designated heritage site. Standard protocol requires that 平特五不中 conduct an archeological excavation before starting any large-scale construction project.
Beginning June 19, and continuing for approximately 2 weeks, archeological excavation work will be carried out on select areas of the lower field next to McLennan and Redpath Library buildings. Ark茅os, a Montreal-based archaeological firm will be managing the project. Ark茅os specializes in the careful evaluation of sites with respect to archaeology, ethnology, prehistory, and bioarchaeology. The archeological survey will take place in coordination with an Indigenous archeological technician appointed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw谩:ke. From the terrace, you will be able to look down and watch the work of the archeological firm.
Please note that some parts of the lower west field will be inaccessible. The work will be conducted in a quiet and non-disruptive manner to minimize any inconvenience to members of the 平特五不中 community. For safety reasons, the areas on the lower field where the excavation will be taking place will be fenced. New grass will be planted in the area after the work is complete to restore the site to its original state.

Des travaux d鈥檈xcavation auront lieu dans des lieux s茅lectionn茅s de la partie ouest du champ en contrebas de la Biblioth猫que McLennan-Redpath en pr茅paration de la transformation de l鈥檌mmeuble qui est assimil茅 脿 un site patrimonial. Selon le protocole en usage, l鈥橴niversit茅 doit se livrer 脿 une excavation arch茅ologique avant tout ouvrage immobilier d鈥檈nvergure.
脌 compter du 19 juin, et durant environ deux semaines par la suite, une excavation arch茅ologique sera men茅e dans des emplacements s茅lectionn茅s du champ en contrebas et attenant 脿 la Biblioth猫que McLennan-Redpath. Ark茅os, firme montr茅alaise d鈥檃rch茅ologie, sera le charg茅 de projet. Cette firme se sp茅cialise dans l鈥櫭﹙aluation minutieuse des sites aux chapitres de l鈥檃rch茅ologie, de l鈥檈thnologie, de la pr茅histoire et de la bioarch茅ologie. La fouille arch茅ologique aura lieu en coordination avec un technicien en arch茅ologie nomm茅 par le Conseil Mohawk de Kahnawake. Vous pourrez observer les travaux d鈥橝rk茅os du haut de la terrasse.
Veuillez prendre note que certaines sections de la partie ouest du champ en contrebas seront inaccessibles. Les travaux se d茅rouleront dans le calme et n鈥檈ntra卯neront aucune interruption pour r茅duire au minimum les inconv茅nients que subira la communaut茅 mcgilloise. Des cl么tures seront 茅rig茅es sur les lieux de l鈥檈xcavation dans le champ en contrebas 脿 titre de pr茅caution. Au terme des travaux, une nouvelle pelouse sera plant茅e pour remettre les lieux dans leur 茅tat pr茅alable.
