Daily Publication Society (DPS) Annual Student Journalism Week

Learn everything you've ever wanted to know about aspects of journalism: everything from how to investigate a tip to media law to copy editing.

March 18

Photo Editing Workshop (2pm - 3pm, Shatner B-24)
Learn how a photo gets into the paper: from how to cover an event or story to how to edit your photos. Please bring your own camera!


March 19

Careers in Media (1 pm - 2 pm, Lev Bukhman, 2nd floor Shatner)
What careers can we pursue if we decide NOT to go into mainstream journalism? Hear from media professionals about other career options and how they got their starts.

Copy Editing Workshop (2 pm - 3pm, Lev Bukhman, 2nd floor Shatner)
Whether you're writing an article for a newspaper or a paper for a class, copy editing is a skill that can be applied to every piece of text that comes through your hands. Learn tips from The Daily's copy editor, Nicole Leonard, and improve your writing and editing.

Hear from people who work at the intersection of activism and journalism about challenges they face, perceptions of objectivity in journalism, and the importance of covering social justice issues in media.
Featuring Gretchen King (CKUT), Martin Lukacs (independent journalist with the Guardian), and Holly Dressel (environmental advocate and co-author with David Suzuki of Good News for a Change)
