A message from Professor Andrew Piper

Portrait of Prof. Andrew Piper

Many of the world's most pressing problems -- climate change, mass misinformation, human health and well-being, equality and social justice, the creation of ethical AI -- require profoundly holistic solutions grounded in interdisciplinary thinking. These large-scale human challenges do not belong to a single discipline. The successful problem-solving of the future will depend on students who have been trained to see problems in their full complexity: able to consider questions of human flourishing amidst diverse technical, social, biological, and ecological systems.听听听听

This is the ambitious goal that the B.A. & Sc. sets itself. Our degree consists of a select group of over 700 students whose interests spread across more than 20 departments in the Faculty of Arts and Science. We offer dedicated programs in Environment, Sustainability, and Cognitive Science along with Multi-Track programs that allow you to combine majors from Arts and Science to build your own educational experience. Students have access to a foundational program course that brings together critical views of science along with case studies of more integrative forms of research in addition to upper-level advanced research courses that involve self-directed study. It is a demanding course of study that produces the next generation of high-level critical and creative thinkers. 听听

If this is the kind of educational experience you are seeking, I encourage you to apply.听
